Calgary Colts
The Colts midget football team has been in the city since the inception of the league in 2003. The staff and the management promote work ethic, importance of family, and the value of education. They do this by showing the kids how life and the game resemble each other in many ways. We try to prepare the kids to make the jump to the next level, while showing them how the attributes spoke above are key in becoming a successful person.
Last season was generally a pretty good year for the colts. We finished the regular season tied for second, with a 4-2 record, and made it to the semi-final game in the A side playoffs. Considering how young we were last year, and some changes made mid-season to our team, our end result was not too bad considering the strength of the midget football league in Calgary.
This season many of last year’s grade 9 players are back. Last year was the most talented group of grade 9’s I have ever seen come up to midget since I have been with this program. With last season and a year of high school under their belt we will be relying heavily on last year’s grade 9’s. This year’s crop of grade 9’s is strong again. We have a few bantam all-stars coming up that have looked real good in camp.
Fortunately for us two of our more talented players are grade 11’s that are quarterbacks. We have a dynamic running back, a good o-line and a couple of high quality receivers. On defense, the area that I am more familiar with, we have a lot of good athletes. Our concerns might be our size past the defensive line, and our youth. We might have as little as 1 defensive starter in grade 11. We can be thankful that many of these young players have years of football experience. Speed should not be a concern either.
This year should be a good year again. I believe another trip to cities, and a city championship is very possible for this team. If you are interested in playing for the colts at this or any other level you can look us up at southcalgarycolts.ca.
